Today I have a few pictures of another one of the recent China Glaze Cirque du Soleil polishes, Get Carried Away.  It’s a glittery mix that is frankly a little weird.

In the bottle this polish looks promising; it clearly has large silver and orangey-red hex glitter peeking out from a dark, swirling base, in addition to small silver glitter.  I had read about this polish and knew that it was supposed to have some black glitter, and also looked at pictures of this online.  So I thought that it would be interesting over my New Year’s Eve manicure (Dior Apparat, a dark, shimmery red).  It was only after I painted on Get Carried Away that all of the black glitter pieces became apparent.  It’s not just a greyish base, but tons of tiny black glitter, black bar glitter and also black hex glitter that makes it look so dark in the bottle.  I think it’s impossible to really get a sense of all of the black glitter until you use this polish.  I don’t think it helps that most swatches I saw were over a black or dark red base, so of course all of the black glitter was lost.

This polish applied okay.  I saw a lot of complaints about application but I thought it wasn’t too bad.  It’s a little thick but the base wasn’t too streaky and it wasn’t too hard to push the glitter around a bit.  And, I didn’t get any huge bubbling problems or anything.

Over Apparat, the black glitter is just not that noticeable.  I think this polish needs a really light base to show off the black glitter, so I’m planning to try a lighter combination someday.  I’m not feeling all that excited about it though.  I think this glitter is weird; I don’t really understand why you would combine so much black glitter with a sheer black base, which sort of obscures it.  So there are a lot of other polishes that are going to be in line before this one comes up again.

Underwhelmed.

The China Glaze Cirque du Soleil Collection should still be available on etailers, although it seemed to be distributed pretty spottily at Sally Beauty and Ulta.
