So the next day after I complained about not being able to buy Mimosa, it popped up on the Chanel website along with the rest of the Collection Les Fleurs d’Ete de Chanel.  Yay!  Since we were in the middle of the work week when I got my package, I started with Morning Rose.  Swatches coming up!

I ordered all three of the polishes with high hopes.  As a warning to anyone still planning their order, I actually painted on Beige Petale first.  In the bottle it’s a beautiful light tan with slight pink undertones, and since I am still interested in finding an even better mannequin hands shade I was excited to try it. But Beige Petale is REALLY sheer.  I put it on and couldn’t even tell that it had color at all; it seemed like a sheer topcoat.  So I added another layer and it still looked like sheer topcoat.  At that point I wiped it off and started again with Morning Rose.  I’m thinking that may be the first and last of Beige Petale for me, which is too bad.

But, Morning Rose is really pretty.  It’s a bright pink with slight gold sparkly pieces.  It’s more orangish on me than it looks on the beautiful windswept model on the website, but I like how it was somehow bright but soft at the same time.  It took three coats and was still a bit sheerer than I would prefer, which is a slight drawback that I think keeps it out of ‘woah, I need another bottle’ territory for me.  It’s a really nice pink that is totally summery without being obnoxious.

So the next day I tried Rock Coat over it.  I feel like every time I try Rock Coat I forget how to use it until I’m almost done; I think it’s pretty tricky.  But by the end of my left hand, this is what I ended up with.  I like how surprising Rock Coat can be-how you can take a really bright and loud manicure and turn it into something murky and brooding with minimal effort.  There is something about bright ‘summer flowers’ peeking through smoky grey grunge that is kind of fun.  It’s like a nail polish person inside joke.

I like the weird slight sheerness and the way that it has a brownish, kind of dirty look.  It’s like finding different tones in a color you already tried out for a while.

The Chanel website currently is offering free shipping (you don’t even have to enter a code or anything, so nice!  so Chanel!) and the Dior website has Rock Coat in stock.  So now is the time to pick up these beauties if you’re interested.
