Dior’s polishes for this holiday season even look like little Christmas ornaments; they’re packaged in little round bottles topped with decorative gold tops. I was trying to be restrained about this collection, but I changed my mind after seeing how quickly Diva sold out online.
I kept telling myself that I didn’t need it because I’m not a fan of black polish, but Diva sold out within just a few days of appearing on Dior.com and other department store sites. I then starting wondering if I needed to give it a chance, which led to a frantic trip to the local Dior counter. I bought the last bottle of Diva there, no kidding. And after trying Diva, I can see why. It’s a warm black with little sparkles that are gold but have a slight duochrome reddish glint in the shade. It only took two coats to be opaque and applied well, even though the brush is shorter and flatter at the bottom than the normal Dior brush. I don’t understand how a polish this opaque and dark can also let the gold shimmers show through so well, but it does. They really glint and shine, it’s not like one of those black polishes with sparkle that you can’t really see. The sparkle makes it seem festive and also softer than a plain black. It also has a nice, smooth finish and isn’t gritty at all from the glitter. So, I really like it! I found myself watching the sparkle and feeling really impressed by this color.

This picture shows how Diva looks somehow softer than a plain black.

I bought this polish at a local Dior counter, and it still seems to be sold out on all of the usual online sources. It was supposedly re-stocked on Dior.com but when I checked it was still showing as unavailable. So, if you’re looking for it I would suggest trying to find it in person. It’s the only one of the four Grand Bal polishes that are sold out and unavailable online, so there seems to be a consensus that it’s the polish to get if you’re only going to get one.
Normally I am not in to black nail polishes but this I could not resist, and to be honest I watchted it sell out so quickly on line and that did make me want to see why I was lucky to grab it in a store and am glad I did. I do love the marlyn red and lady white too! And the bottles are so cut how could anyone resist. Thanks for posting this!
Dior Diva is very nice, but there is a substitute out there that I like even better: Sephora by Opi Never Enough Shoes! The polish is described as black with multi-colored glitter, but it would better be described as multi-colored shimmer. It’s not a glitter polish and dries completely smooth. I actually prefer it to the Dior because it’s shimmer is more obvious especially in lower light situations. I still love the Dior Diva, but that’s probably a result of the fabulous packaging rather than the polish itself.
I just did a side by side comparison of Diva and Never Enough Shoes and they look identical. Then I dug out my bottle of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure “Midnight in NY” and it is also close enough to be called a dupe. Now I have three versions of what is basically the same polish! I still adore the Dior bottle, but I’m pretty bummed about this. ????
