I, too, fell under the spell of the OPI Katy Perry Collection. The colors looked so much prettier and more fun in person than they had in the promo pictures, I think because all of them have interesting finishes that sparkle and look nice in different lighting. It was just in time because these colors are selling out quickly, especially Black Shatter, which is rumored to be sold out worldwide. I had to order my Black Shatter for more than retail price from an Amazon seller, since the stores around me couldn’t say whether they would receive more. Swatches coming up!
Not Like the Movies is the first one I chose, because when I saw it in person I decided that it was too unique to pass up. It’s described as silvery, and I don’t need any more silvers. But this is greyish and has pretty duochrome flashes of purple and green, and also has little silvery bits of glitter in it to keep it from looking too brushstroke-y. It’s softer looking on the nail than I thought it would be, which I like. It took three coats to be opaque on me and is a little thin, but that made it easy to control.
And here it is with Black Shatter! The Black Shatter is fun. I used a medium-to-thin coat here, and I like the shatter pattern. I did my left hand first using a coat that was thinner than this, and I didn’t like the pattern as much as this try using a slightly thicker coat. The thinner coat is more stringy, and broke into smaller pieces. Black Shatter dries so quickly that it’s already shattering as soon as you stop painting it on. It’s definitely too out there for my office, but for me it will be a fun and quick effect to add to an existing polish for an evening or weekend look. This swatch also has a coat of China Glaze Fast Forward top coat to make it shinier.
The One That Got Away is a deep berry/fuschia. The finish on this one is also what makes it special-it’s full of glass-speck that makes it sparkly but not glittery, and has a slightly gold flash in the shade. I also used three coats and found it easy to control. It’s so pretty by itself that I couldn’t make myself put Black Shatter on it. I’ve seen pictures of Black Shatter on this color, and I have to say that I think it’s better by itself. It seems like the sparkle doesn’t show as well with the black on top, and I don’t think this color coordinates that well with black.
In the shade you can see the purple tone, and the way the glitter can take on a hint of gold or orange.
These colors are more wearable than I thought they might be, and the Black Shatter is a must-have polish if you can find it. I also have Teenage Dream, a really dense candy pink glitter with holo pieces, but I’m kind of holding off using it. I hate taking off glitter, and it looks especially packed full of glitter pieces. These colors are on sale in salons and at Ulta, but a lot of etailers seem to be sold out already.
