The OPI Mariah Carey Collection also included four polishes in a “Liquid Sand” finish, so I picked one to try – swatches of Stay The Night coming up!

I read just a bit about the liquid sand finish and I thought it was going to be more matte, or gritty, or something, than it is.  I haven’t read this anywhere else, but I want to point out that it still dries to be a shiny finish, but bumpy.  I was so surprised when I took this outside and looked at it, and my nails were still really shiny, even though a lot of other reviews described it as though the finish would be matte.  It’s more like the polish turns into little lumps but the lumps themselves are shiny.  In person it reminded me of the way I imagine the Ciate caviar manicure, which is little shiny beads stuck all over your nail.  I can’t deal with the idea of little beads, so I think this polish is great.  I love the effect!

I used three coats here, and I did think the effect came out better at my cuticle where the coats were thinner.  So I think this might work better with thinner coats.  When I use this polish again I’ll make sure to use thin coats. Also, It did take a long time to dry.  I’m so used to using quick-dry topcoat, but you can’t use a topcoat with this finish and I smudged my index finger all over because I was expecting it to be drier than it was.  I just sort of patted it back into place and it wasn’t too noticeable, but it does need more dry time than I’m used to.

I really love this color; it’s lots of pink glitter in a smoky black base.  The pink glitter stays sparkly and the black base turns into little shiny lumps.  The formula was easy to work with and I love the texture it leaves behind.

I don’t have anything else like this and I really like this color out of the four Liquid Sand polishes.  Look at how shiny it dries-the picture above really shows that.   Interestingly, the nail surface doesn’t feel as gritty as it looks; I think it’s the shine of the “bumps” that makes it photograph as though there’s a lot of texture.

I bought this with the other Mariah Carey Collection polishes at our local Ulta.
