Those Nicole OPI polishes with the big, heart-shaped glitter make me think of Valentine’s Day no matter what time of the year it is. I’ve now bought two of them, thinking to myself “this would be nice for Valentine’s Day…” So here are two Valentine’s Day looks.
The first uses the Nicole OPI heart glitter from the Justin Bieber collection, Step to the Beat of My Heart. I think this one’s a little tricky, since the glitters are light purple and light pinkish-purple, but end up looking darker in the bottle. I tried it over a dark purple-red (Zoya’s Stacy) to try to make the hearts stand out, and I’m not so sure about the results.
Zoya’s Stacy is a burgundy color from Fall 2010. It took three coats to be opaque, and was a little streaky. I like that it’s a little unexpected for Valentine’s Day since it’s so dark. But I would probably try a really light color like Essie Lilacism or China Glaze Light as Air next time, to see if the hearts show up more when the base color is lighter than they are. Also, the heart glitters are hard to work with, since they don’t really come out of the bottle with the brush. I always have to go fishing for them with a toothpick, even though they look so dense in the bottle. I used a coat of China Glaze Fast Forward to smooth things out:

Next up is a lighter look using Essie In Stitches and Nicole OPI Love Your Life. In Stitches is from Essie’s Fall 2010 collection, a dusty, rosy pink. I picked it to provide contrast with the light pink hearts in Love Your Life, and I think this look worked out a little better. Love Your Life has more smaller glitter thrown in with the big hearts than Step to the Beat of My Heart, so there’s a little more sparkle.

Which one of these combinations do you like better? Does anyone have suggestions for a nice base color for Step to the Beat of My Heart?
I prefer the Second combination. 🙂
Is it difficult to get the hearts glitters out?
Thanks! It’s difficult to get the heart glitters out of the bottle-I think the Nicole OPI bottle shape is especially bad for that. I used a toothpick to fish them out of the bottle. But removal isn’t much worse than normal glitter-if you place a cotton ball soaked in polish remover on your nails for 3-5 minutes, it loosens up and you can peel the heart glitters off your nails.
