Over this past weekend we had beautiful, sunny autumn weather. I had a chance to pull out the OPI Muppets Collection polishes and compare them against a few other polishes.
I already reviewed the polishes I picked up from the Muppets Collection in earlier posts: Animal-istic, Warm & Fozzie and Pepe’s Purple Passion. But I wanted to compare them against some other polishes to get a better sense of the colors. First up is a comparison of Animal-istic next to OPI’s Love Is A Racket, from the Glam Slam U.S. set. I picked the set up and haven’t had a chance to wear it yet, but in the bottle Animal-istic and Love Is A Racket both looked like bright reds with tons of sparkle.
In the picture below, Animal-istic is on my index and middle fingers and Love Is A Racket is on my ring and pinky fingers. Animal-istic has a darker, orange tone, while Love Is A Racket is more of a hot pink. Both are sparkly, but the shimmer in Animal-istic seems to float on top of the polish more, while the shimmer in Love Is A Racket is slightly bigger pieces and seems more sunk down into the layers of polish. I used two coats for both of these, and Love Is A Racket is a little bit sheerer. They’re both so pretty, though!

Next I looked around for a sparkly brown that might be similar to Warm & Fozzie, but I couldn’t come up with very many contenders. In the picture below, Warm & Fozzie is on my index and middle fingers, Avon’s Deluxe Chocolate is on my ring finger, and OPI’s Rally Pretty Pink is on my pinky. In the picture you can see that Warm & Fozzie looks a bit similar to the bottle of Deluxe Chocolate I’m holding – they have a dark, deep brown feel and gold shimmer. But whoa, on the nail Deluxe Chocolate dried very red and totally different from Warm & Fozzie (and kind of different from its own bottle color). Deluxe Chocolate does have a gold shimmer, but it’s nothing like the big chunks of gold/bronze shimmer in Warm & Fozzie. Rally Pretty Pink is not like the other two. I think the heavy gold shimmer in Rally Pretty Pink tricked me into thinking it might be similar, but it’s not.

When I wore Pepe’s Purple Passion, the base color reminded me of Lancome’s Le Rouge L’Wren. That polish came out last year at the holidays and is a really pretty dark red with purple undertones and a bit of shimmer. These were not as close as I thought they might be, but they’re in the same family. In the picture below, Pepe’s Purple Passion is on my index and middle fingers and Le Rouge L’Wren is on my ring and pinky. This picture doesn’t really capture the texture problems with Pepe’s Purple Passion (which dries gritty and scaly sort of like lizard skin, in a way that no amount of topcoat could fix for me), but I think it does show the nice texture on Le Rouge L’Wren, which looks all buttery and shiny like a proper deep red. The bottle of Le Rouge L’Wren is very small at .2 fluid ounces, so it’s a special occasion polish. But other than that, it’s definitely the winner here.

Does anyone have any other good comparison ideas for these polishes?
