I tried out a new combination with Dior Lime – I used a base of Sally Hansen Malt for a “y-gap” manicure, a design used by U.K. nail celebrity Sophy Robson.
The y-gap is kind of like a moon manicure, but with two sections at the bottom of the nail. I liked the nude look in my moon manicure and I wanted to try another design with nude sections, so I picked out Sally Hansen’s Malt for the base polish. It’s a kind of weirdly yellow nude from summer 2011. It’s nice for this kind of a thing because it’s very opaque, so it only took two coats.
Dior Lime was a bit difficult to work with as the top color in this design. It’s a bit sheer and I had to go back over the first coat, which made it harder to keep the gaps even. It was a bit hard to place the sections, but I wasn’t as bothered by the slight asymmetry as I thought I would be. This combination was okay, but I think that this wasn’t the right season for it. It gave me a summery feeling when I caught sight of it, but I think that there are better looks for December. Also, I think that a higher contrast between the two colors might be better. I’ll have to keep trying with this idea. But, there was a slight wiff of Florida or Art Deco or something about it that I did kind of like.
