Les Jeans de Chanel – Coco Blue Swatch and Comparison

The next installment of my Les Jeans swatches is the lightest blue of the three – Coco Blue is a cool-toned sky blue with white pearly shimmer.  Chanel has two other recent light blue releases, so I also pulled out Nouvelle Vague and Riva to compare.

Coco Blue is part of the Les Jeans de Chanel Collection – you can see my first installment of swatches (of  Blue Boy) and discussion of the collection here.  Coco Blue took three coats to be opaque, and was just a bit streaky at first.  By the third coat it evened out and looked fine.  I was pleasantly surprised by the shimmer in Coco Blue; often the shimmer in Chanel polishes doesn’t show up that much once they’re on the nail, but this one did have a definite pearly sheen in the light.   This color is both vibrant and yet softer than it looks like it will be in the bottle – it’s a pretty, baby blue that manages to not veer into teenage girl territory.  The shimmer makes it more changeable and sets it apart from other sky blue cremes, which can look stark or chalky.

Just look at the shimmer in the picture below – so pretty!

I compared Coco Blue to Chanel’s two other light blue colors to get a better sense of the color.  In the picture below, Coco Blue is on my index and middle fingers, Riva is on my ring finger and Nouvelle Vague is on my pinky.  You can see how much more vibrant and really blue Coco Blue is – it doesn’t have any green tones and is not turquoise, like Nouvelle Vague.  I think this makes it more of a springy or fall blue than Nouvelle Vague, which seems so summery to me.  Riva is a bit closer to Coco Blue in tone, since it’s at least less green.  But Riva is much lighter and more grey, and is also a lot more sheer than Coco Blue.  I used three coats for all of the swatches below, and I ended up with a bit of streakiness with Riva.

Coco Blue is a fun color that’s really different from Chanel’s other light blues, so it’s worth a look.  The Les Jeans de Chanel Collection was released for Fashion’s Night Out as part of a trio of polishes that are still up on the Chanel website at this point, but like all of Chanel’s Fashion’s Night Out polishes, they aren’t expected to last long.

  1. Boo! Hiss…I spy that Riva. I’m still bitter about it. 🙁

To be honest, I wasn’t taken with the Chanel Blues for some reason. The only one that made me look twice and keep moving on was this very color you’ve featured! I’d rather get 3 more Peridots than even think about getting any of these colors.
