Orly Thorned Rose is a dark reddish-burgundy color, with a purple tone. It’s from Orly’s Spring 2010 collection, and I do think it’s a nice dark red for spring, since it leans more purple than brown.
I used three coats for opacity, and it went on nicely. I also used Orly’s In a Snap topcoat for the look below, which I was happy with-it came free with two other Orly bottles I bought at Sally Beauty, and I’m in search of a new top coat since my China Glaze Fast Forward has basically died. The Orly went on pretty thick but seemed to thin out and spread as it dried, which I liked.
Then on the second day, I added a layer of CND Crimson Sparkle. I just got the Crimson Sparkle, since I was thinking that a pinkish sparkle would be nice for spring and summer. I really like this one–it has little flakie glitters that flash more gold than I thought it would. The gold flash is almost a duochrome look-in the picture below you can see that the right side of my nails are goldish while the pink sparkle comes out on the left side.
This shows the pink more:
I liked the textured look the Crimson Sparkle gave. With the Crimson Sparkle I was able to wear this for four days and I just had a little bit of tipwear, so I could have kept it on longer. That’s kind of a long time for me! I recently had a bad break in one of my nails and had to cut the rest of them shorter, so that might have also helped. I usually get chips right down at the bottom of my nails, but they’re so much shorter now that they don’t touch my keyboard as much when I type.
