Zoya’s Zara is an older Zoya polish I ordered as part of their Facebook promotion. It’s a pinkish medium lavender with strong gold shimmer. I thought it would be a perfect test for Dior’s Rock Coat!
By itself it’s a purple that’s not too bright or in your face, it’s just pretty. The gold shimmer in Zara shows up as orangey in some lights; it’s a very warm color. The formula is a little thin, and even with three coats I still see a little bit of visible nail line in strong light. I used China Glaze Fast Forward as a topcoat and I got quite a bit of shrinkage at the tips of my nails, although I wrapped my tips on my first coat or two. So the formula is a slight drawback on this one, but the color is really nice.

Then I added a medium-thin coat of Dior’s Rock Coat. I thought this would be a good color to test Rock Coat on. I’ve had trouble with streaks on very light colors, so I wanted to see whether I could make it work over a medium color like this, without any darkness to help the Rock Coat look more even. I really liked the effect I got with this combination; I didn’t feel like it ended up looking streaky. The Rock Coat made Zara darker, but I was surprised that it made Zara look more brown rather than more grey, with a deep warmness sort of like fresh red grapes. Maybe it’s because some of Zara’s golden-orange shimmer still peeks through the Rock Coat. It didn’t make Zara so dark that it was blackish. In fact, this combination reminded me of a sheerer, lighter version of Dior’s Lemon Balm-it has the same kind of shimmery, purpley-brown feel.
