Deborah Lippmann has two new polishes for Spring 2011–Naked and Glitter in the Air. Naked has already shown up on magazine covers and on Anne Hathaway at the 2011 Oscars, and Glitter in the Air was inspired by Pink’s performance at last year’s Grammys, so they are both well-pedigreed. Keep reading for swatches!
I was most interested in Naked, since I have been on a hunt for my perfect skin-color nail polish. I’m happy to report that I am calling off the search–this is it for me! It’s a soft, light beige that looks a little pink in some lights and a little peach in others. It seems to be a perfect shade for my skin–it splits the difference between the skin right around my nails, which is darker and more pink, and the skin on my hands, which is lighter. It gives me a bare and sleek look, but the color itself is still pretty, not dirty or grey at all. And like all Lippmann polishes, it went on nicely and was easy to control. It did take three coats and is the tiniest bit sheer, but I think that helps it blend in with my skintone. Success!
I did some swatches to compare it to the other polishes that I’ve tried. On my thumb you can see a sliver of CND’s Desert Suede, which is warmer and more orange than my skin. On my index finger is Naked-see how it blends in so well? On my middle finger is CND’s Perfectly Bare, which is okay but a little too peachy for me. On my ring finger is OPI’s Tickle My France-y. I bought it after seeing swatches on others, but it was a disappointment as it’s way too brown to blend in with my skin. On my pinky finger I used Essie’s Sand Tropez, just to show how it’s much more grey. I like it but it doesn’t blend in with my skin at all; it’s more like a summertime khaki.
Naked feels glamorous since it gives my fingers such a bare, long look. I’m so happy with it!
Glitter in the Air is a light, milky base with light blue and light pink hexagonal and smaller glitter. It’s really sweet and girly looking, very soft. I like it a lot, but I think picking a base color for it is tricky. It’s so sheer that you kind of need something under it-even in pictures showing five coats, you can still see nail line. But you want to preserve the softness of the color. Some people have layered it over polishes that in my opinion are too bright blue (like Hard Candy Sky), which kind of takes away the softness. I’ve also seen it over beiges, like Naked, which takes away its slight blue tint. So I tried it over Chanel’s Riva, which is itself a milky, soft pale blue. I think this combination maintains the bottle color of Glitter in the Air really well-still milky, but definitely bluish, and beautifully soft. I used two coats of Riva and three coats of Glitter in the Air for these swatches:
It’s like clouds and speckly eggs and Easter candy, all mixed together!
These polishes are available on Deborah Lippmann’s website and also at Nordstrom’s, although it looks like Glitter in the Air might be backordered on Nordstrom.com at this point.
wow. never liked that mannequin hands thing….until now! I bet that polish would look very similar on my digits (naked)! I think you’re right. It def. looks clean and lean and LONG! Nice!!! Great for work, goes with ALL your clothes… you could never take it off! Plus it’ll be the best palette cleanser between colors if you ever get to feeling like you need one (like I just did!). Just wish Lippmann’s weren’t SOOO expensive! GAH! I’m more of a $1.99 polish girl… =0P
Thanks! It does seem like Naked will go with a lot.
