Rescue Beauty Lounge Grunge vs. Essie Sand Tropez

When Rescue Beauty Lounge’s Grunge came back in stock on their website, I kept an eye on it and included it with my order from the Spring 2011 collection.  It’s a dirty taupe color, a little bit like the nudes I’ve been trying out this spring.  Comparisons coming up!

Grunge applies really nicely-I did use three coats here to be sure that it was opaque, but I wore it for four days with no chips at all.  It’s a fleshy, greyish taupe with a tiny bit of purple.  I didn’t realize before ordering, but it also has a slight silver shimmer.  The shimmer peeked out in the bottle in my picture, but didn’t really show up on my nails.  This is another office-friendly neutral color, and it’s surprisingly close to my skin color for a polish that doesn’t seem to be trying to be nude, like so many polishes from this spring.  I think it gives off that kind of a nonchalant, not-trying-too-hard feel in general.

Just to see how close they are, I compared Grunge with the two nudes from Essie’s Spring 2011 Collection, Sand Tropez and Topless and Barefoot (see my original reviews of Essie Sand Tropez and and Topless and Barefoot.)  My index and middle fingers are Grunge, my ring finger is Sand Tropez and my pinky finger is Topless and Barefoot.  Both of the Essies are much lighter, with more white, than Grunge.  I like that Grunge is so muted and more relaxed feeling.  I think it’s definitely worth picking up a bottle-it’s a classic.

In the shade picture the differences are clear – Sand Tropez has that yellow, slightly greenish cast and Topless and Barefoot is peachy.  You can see Grunge’s brownish-purple tone.

I like them all!

  1. Hey,

I really like your blog and you present so many different colors! I share your passions for nails. Do you have any tips on how you take care of your nails or tricks on how to do the best manicure?

    Thanks!

    1. Thanks so much for your comments, Grace! I have been using Essie’s Rock Solid basecoat lately and I think it’s helped my nails grow longer. I think it takes practice to paint cleanly around the cuticle, so that part just took me a while. I’m also thinking of writing a post soon about my nail routine.
