Here’s a release that’s almost an oldie at this point–OPI’s Simply Smash-ing! and Black Shatter “Glam Slam” duo. This is the one that started the shatter onslaught when it came out back in January. Just to re-cap, it is the first of the Serena Williams duos that OPI will be releasing throughout the year, to coincide with the dates of the tennis Grand Slam championships. This one was for the Australian Open.
I tried to resist it, but I caved. As the weather started getting warmer, I started looking at the bright, gold-green color of Simply Smash-ing! and thinking how nice and springy it could be. And I’m happy to report that it is indeed nice and springy! I used three coats, and it’s fairly opaque, but I could still see a bit of VNL when I was moving my hands around and the light hit them. My first two coats were on the thin side, so the next time I’ll try to make coats 1-2 thicker as well. Simply Smash-ing! is itself a bit thin, but that makes it easy to control.
It’s very sparkly and fun. It reminded me of all of the glass fleck-y sparkles from the holidays-the finish is similar to several from China Glaze’s holiday collection, and the three sparkles from Zoya’s holiday collection. And the color reminded me a bit of China Glaze’s Peace on Earth, with its golden-olive punch. Simply Smash-ing! is more golden, though, and a bit lighter. My only complaint is the hyphen in the name-it really seems gratuitous in this name to me. Like, to me “Simply Smashing” would work just as well.
This color is great with Black Shatter-the slight green tint keeps it from feeling like bumblebee colors, which is what has kept me from combining yellow and Black Shatter. The sparkle and color provide a nice contrast and really pop from under the Black.
If you haven’t already picked up this set, you’ll probably have to buy it from an online seller at this point.
